E-Dikta: An Android-based Reading Companion for the Visually Impaired using Open-Source
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) with Speech Output

In aiding the visually impaired individuals, Braille has long been a crucial tool for reading.
However, challenges arise when materials are not available in Braille.
Modern applications strive to address these limitations, but many are either feature-laden enough to confuse users or either lacking in essential functionalities.

The Challenge

  1. Focusing on broad accessibility to address user limitations in utilizing the app effectively.
  2. Prioritizing simplicity to ensure a positive user experience.
  3. Simplifying the interface for users with varying degrees of visual impairments.

The Solution

  1. Swipe and Tap Interactions on buttons and features.
  2. Voice Commands to enable features.
  3. Guiding Audio to help users in navigating the app.
  4. Device Sensors for backup to access certain features.
  5. Large Icons for those who may have slight visual impairment.
  6. User-Friendly Colors for ease of use and aesthetic purposes.
